  i went to hawaii. this native girl put a garland of flowers around my neck and said, 'in hawaii, that's a lei.'
  
  'well god bless san francisco!'
  
  
  
  i asked this kid 'do you pronouce it hawaii or havaii?'
  
  he said, 'havaii.'
  
  'thanks a lot.'
  
  'you're velcome.'

  How well it goes will depend on the lei of the land. They have a sort of "here today, gone to Maui" attitude.
